Markham was British-born and raised in Kenya, where she had a childhood filled with freedom and an adulthood brimming with adventure. She is considered a pioneer in aviation, as she was the first person to successfully cross the Atlantic Ocean from east to west. Markham's writing is simply stunning. She writes beautifully about the natural landscape, the wild animals she encounters, and the loneliness and exhilaration she feels flying over miles and miles of undeveloped Africa. This is a beautiful book that held my attention from the very first page to the last. Highly recommended!
